Thermal Mass Flow Meter – Manas Sirocco 1000
Modern process plants rely heavily on compressed air, nitrogen, CO₂, natural gas, biogas, and other industrial gases. These utilities represent up to 20–40% of energy cost in many factories, making accurate flow measurement essential for efficiency, cost allocation, and leak monitoring.
The Manas Sirocco 1000 Thermal Mass Flow Meter, supplied and integrated by NPK Industries, is designed for direct mass flow measurement of gases without needing pressure or temperature compensation. It is widely used across utilities, OEM machinery, ETPs, chemical plants, dairy units, packaging lines, and pneumatic systems.

What Is a Thermal Mass Flow Meter? (Technical Yet Simple)
A thermal mass flow meter measures mass flow directly using heat transfer. It does not measure volume like a vortex or orifice meter. Instead, it measures the amount of heat carried away by the flowing gas.
Core Law Used:
Higher gas mass flow → More heat taken away → Higher output signal
This makes it ideal for compressed air leak detection, gas flow monitoring, and energy tracking.
Working Principle (Heat Transfer Method)
The Manas Sirocco 1000 uses the constant temperature differential (ΔT) principle with two sensors:
Internal Structure (Explained Simply):
Required heating power ∝ Gas mass flow rate
- Heated Sensor (RH) – A small heater warms this sensor.
- Reference Sensor (R₀) – Does not heat; measures actual gas temperature.
- Electronics – Maintain a constant temperature difference between RH and R₀.
- Gas Flow – Carries heat away from the heated sensor
- Power Input – More flow → more cooling → more power required to maintain ΔT.
Key Advantages of This Principle:
- Direct mass flow measurement
- No pressure/temperature compensation required
- Highly accurate for low flow velocities
- Ideal for leak detection and energy monitoring
