Β What Is a Coriolis Mass Flow Meter?

  • A Coriolis flow meter measures mass flow by detecting the vibration of tubes carrying the fluid. As fluid passes through vibrating tubes, Coriolis force causes the tubes to twist.

Tube twist β†’ phase shift β†’ proportional to mass flow.

Working Principle

Coriolis meters use vibrating measuring tubes. As fluid flows:

  1. Electromagnetic driver vibrates the tubes at resonance

  2. Fluid passing through adds Coriolis force

  3. Upstream / downstream tubes oscillate out of phase

  4. Sensors detect time difference (Ξ”t)

  5. Ξ”t ∝ mass flow rate

Density Measurement:
When there is no flow, the resonant frequency of tubes changes based on fluid density.
Higher density β†’ lower vibration frequency.

Temperature Measurement:
Integrated RTD measures flowing fluid temperature.
